5. Direct Kidney Injury
Sometimes the cause is that simple -- if you hurt your kidneys hard enough, it could cause damage and problems as a result. When the kidneys suddenly stop working for any reason, this is known as acute kidney injury. You may also be familiar with the term acute renal failure, which also describes the scenario.
Some potential causes of acute renal failure include:
• The kidneys were directly damaged
• A traumatic injury resulted in major blood loss
• Severe dehydration
• Loss of blood flow to the kidneys
